FTO and cancer: The proteins involved in the regulation of m6A modification can be roughly divided into three categories: m6A methylases, including METTL3, METTL14, and WTAP; m6A demethylases, including FTO, ALKBH5; m6A recognizes proteins, including YTHDC1/2, YTHDF1/2/3, etc. Dysregulation of m6A modification due to aberrant expression of its regulatory proteins can often be observed in many pathological situations, especially cancer [8, 9].
