Some studies have reported fourfold higher risk of poor foetal outcome when TSH level is elevated.7,8 Similarly perinatal mortality has been reported for thyroid peroxidase antibodies(TPO) positive mothers.9 Some other published studies observed no association between thyroid abnormalities and perinatal death.7,10 As thyroid abnormality is thought to be linked with adverse pregnancy outcomes, hence, thyroid testing is frequently advised as part of antenatal tests to evaluate adverse perinatal outcomes. The gene discussed is TPO; the disease is thyroid gland disorder.
