NFAT5 and central nervous system disorder: Integration of NFAT5 binding targets with differentially expressed genes identified 17 transcripts, notably, this list contains the astrocyte‐specific marker Aqp4 (Figure 3C1; Table S5, Supporting Information), the dominant water channel protein in the CNS, which is involved in regulating astrocytic functions and participating in many diseases of the central nervous system,[18, 45] and highly associated with astrocyte swelling.[18] NFAT5 is directly bound to the Aqp4 promoter, and this binding was enhanced after CCI surgery (Figure 3C1–C2; Figure S5D, Supporting Information).
