In univariate analysis, higher galectin-3 levels were significantly associated with each cause of death: the HR for mortality from CV death, infection, and malignancy by galectin-3 level of 37 ng/mL was 3.78 (95% CI 2.22–6.42, p < 0.001), 2.29 (95% CI 1.37–3.81, p = 0.001), and 6.20 (1.72–22.2, p = 0.005), respectively. Here, LGALS3 is linked to cancer.
