Several proteins present in the “Immune system” pathway (Supplementary Dataset S3B) were reported to affect cancer development, generating an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and promoting resistance to therapies, including galectin-9 (LGALS9, Fig. 2a)30–32, interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3 (IFITM3, Fig. 2a)33, gelsolin (GSN, Fig. 2b)34, chemokine (C–C motif) ligand 5 (CCL5, Fig. 2b)35,36, galectin-3 (LGALS3, Fig. 2b)37,38, and annexins (ANXA) 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 (Fig. 2b)39.
