Moreover, due to the potential relevance of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 in T2DM, we also analyzed the levels of T helper lymphocytes that synthesize this cytokine, and we have observed increased fold levels of CD4+IL-10+ cells in patients with mild and severe T2DM compared to healthy controls (Kruskal wallis test p = 0.0045; mean of controls = 1 ± 0.17, mild T2DM = 2.46 ± 0.46 and severe T2DM = 2.31 ± 1.76, p = 0.023 and p = 0.0013, respectively), Fig, 1D).
