Plasma levels of SP and VIP were significantly higher in patients with bacterial/mixed pneumonia compared to the control group (p < 0.001, Fig. 2C for SP; p = 0.002, Fig. 2D for VIP) while there is no significant difference between viral pneumonia and control groups respectively (p = 0.734, Fig. 2C for SP; p = 0.152, Fig. 2D for VIP). The gene discussed is VIP; the disease is viral pneumonia.
