FAS and Alzheimer disease: CD95 is a cell surface receptor that plays a pivotal role in regulating apoptosis or programmed cell death.18 Mutation or dysregulation of the CD95 apoptotic pathway can be involved in various diseases, including AD.18 19 We hypothesise that continuous exposure to self-antigens can keep these T cells activated, leading to increased CD95 expression as a part of the feedback mechanism to regulate excessive immune responses.
