The prevalence of auto-Abs neutralizing 10 ng/ml (or 100 pg/ml) IFN-α2 or IFN-ω was found to increase significantly with age, with the detection of such Abs in 0.17% (1.1%) of individuals under and >1.4% (4.4%) of those over the age of 70 years, making a major contribution to the higher risk of life-threatening COVID-19 in the elderly population (Manry et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene IFNA2 and COVID-19.
