EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: First-generation (gefitinib, erlotinib) and second-generation (afatinib, dacomitinib) EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) serve as standard first-line therapy for treatment-naive patients with sensitizing EGFR mutation-positive advanced/metastatic NSCLC patients because these TKIs have provided patients with clinical benefit, such as high response rate and prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) versus platinum-based doublet chemotherapy6–10.
