According to a large, multicenter, prospective clinical observational study of 1383 consecutively hospitalized patients with acute decompensation of liver cirrhosis published by the Working Group on Chronic Liver Failure of the European Liver Society, white blood cell counts and serum C-reactive protein concentrations in patients with ACLF are significantly higher than those in patients without ACLF. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and chronic liver failure.
