Certain single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within this region have been found to be associated with increased PCa risk.[26] We report here that deletion of this locus is a relatively common (>2%) event in prostate, ovarian and esophageal cancers and deletion and loss as well as downregulation of both ITGA1 and ITGA2 correlate with development of an aggressive form of PCa. The gene discussed is ITGA2; the disease is esophageal cancer.
