These cells specifically express CXCL10 and CXCL8; CXCL10 is known to be significantly increased in periodontitis secreted in response to IFNγ and binds to its receptor CXCR3, modulating the recruitment of macrophages, T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and dendritic cells. Here, CXCL10 is linked to periodontitis.
