The increased LPS-dependent secretion of TNF, which is considered a major cytokine in neurodegenerative processes (Montgomery and Bowers, 2012), was significantly higher in mutant cells than in WT cells consistently with the LPS response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells of X-ALD patients (Lannuzel et al., 1998; Di Biase et al., 2001). This evidence concerns the gene TNF and X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy.
