FOS and Salla disease: NMDA receptor and L-type Ca2+ channel activation is well established to induce cFOS mRNA and protein expression (Chung, 2015) and the extensive NMDA-dependent and L-type Ca2+ channel involvement in SD (Herrera and Robertson, 1990; Shimazawa et al., 1995; Aiba et al., 2012) are likely responsible for cFOS increases observed in the current study.
