Monocytes have been shown to be important participants in inflammatory and fibrotic processes in SSc through the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8), chemokines (CCL2, CXCL10), and growth factors (Carvalheiro et al., 2020; Rudnik et al., 2021).
