Regarding molecular changes, patients with isolated RBD showed intermediate dopamine transporters (DAT) levels in the striatum, lower than healthy controls but higher than PD and RBD patients.11A deficit of dopaminergic markers in patients with isolated RBD was associated with a greater likelihood of developing an alpha-synucleinopathy over 3 to 5 years of follow-up.12Cortical levels of acetylcholinesterase were reduced in patients with isolated RBD compared to controls.13PD patients with RBD also exhibited a greater loss than PD patients without RBD. This evidence concerns the gene SLC6A3 and Parkinson disease.
