Although spontaneous sputum samples demonstrated greater relative abundances of phylum Bacteroidetes, class Bacteroidia, and genus Porphyromonas as compared with induced sputum samples, the relative abundances of these bacteria in ACO were significantly lower than those in COPD even after adjusting for age, sex, pack-year, serum total IgE, daily doses of ICS, and type of sputum sampling (for Porphyromonas, see model 1 in Table E3 in this article’s Online Repository at www.jaci-global.org). The gene discussed is IGHE; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
