Well-established biomarkers such as CRP (C-reactive protein), indicator of an inflammatory process, troponins, resulting from necrosis and brain natriuretic peptides related to cardiac insufficiency, have been recognized by the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB) [9] and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) [10] as reference biomarkers to evaluate the risk and diagnosis of different cardiovascular diseases (see Fig. 1). This evidence concerns the gene NPPB and heart failure.
