Numerous in vivo and in vitro studies have shown that regulating GFAP in astrocytes is not only beneficial for understanding the physiology of healthy brains but also serves as a biomarker for neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease (Gomes et al., 1999; Pekny and Pekna, 2004; Middeldorp and Hol, 2011).
