The lower levels of IL‐4 and IL‐17 in the CAD group, as compared to the non‐CAD group in our study, suggested that these cytokines might have a protective effect against atherosclerosis and that high levels of IL‐4 and IL‐17 might indicate false‐positive coronary lesions in patients suspected of having CAD. The gene discussed is IL17A; the disease is atherosclerosis.
