Our study supports the existing literature that there is a significant association between the duration of obesity and pancreatic cancer in women.45 Elevated fasting blood glucose levels were associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer with a 14% increased risk for every 10 mg/mL increase in fasting blood glucose.46 Insulin resistance, insulin-like growth factor 1, elevated insulin levels and diabetes are also associated with increased cancer risk which potentially explains associations between cumulative duration of excess BMI and pancreatic cancer risk.46,47. The gene discussed is IGF1; the disease is familial pancreatic carcinoma.
