Specifically, the lectin receptor DC-SIGN has a proclivity to bind to high-mannose sugars on the surface of viral glycoproteins, allowing it to facilitate efficient infection-in-trans (also called trans-infection) of several viruses, including human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1, Enterovirus 71, Dengue Virus, HIV-1, and, most recently, SARS-CoV-2 [33,34,53,54,59,60,61,62]. The gene discussed is CD209; the disease is infection.
