GPX4 and infection: Wang et al. found that the mRNA concentration of Gpx4 was significantly reduced after infection of Vero cells with SARS-CoV-2 thus increasing the risk of ferroptosis [138], and the excessive accumulation of mitochondrial ROS caused by the inhibition of Gpx4 promotes the glycolysis, which inhibits the T cells by altering the metabolism and thus promotes the replication of SARS-CoV-2 [139].
