These results, which certainly need further in-depth experimental investigation both in vitro and in vivo, suggest that LANCL2 agonists could represent a new promising pharmacologic approach for improving mitochondrial function and counteract ROS-mediated inflammation and oxidative stress, which is involved in several disease conditions, such as metabolic disorders, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune and auto-inflammatory diseases [71].
