The new results published from a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial performed on 472 elderly patients (older than 60 years) with T2DM, where the treatment group was administered 500 mg of RSV daily during the course of 6 months, showed that RSV significantly decreased the levels of HbA1c, C-reactive protein, and cytokines IL-6 (interleukin-6), TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor α), and IL-1β compared to the placebo [47]. Here, IL6 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
