CatS dysregulation has been linked to the overactivation and exaggeration of many inflammatory chemokines, and inhibition of these enzymes in SS mouse models has shown that CatS may be involved with the autoimmunity associated with SS; thus, CatS may be a target of proteomic analysis as a salivary and tear film biomarker [45]. This evidence concerns the gene PIMREG and Autoimmunity.
