In summary, (1) both D-dimer and MPO are increased in PAD and AAA, and (2) the circulating levels of these markers tend to be higher in AAA than PAD; thus, (3) combining the two markers in a calculated MPO/D-dimer score provides improved sensitivity and specificity with respect to AAA diagnosis, also in the setting of concomitant PAD. Here, MPO is linked to triple-A syndrome.
