In summary, our data suggest that in addition to the conventional objective of reconstructing motor nerve innervation to control denervated muscles, NT possesses desirable potential to engender new neurocircuitry and neuroplasticity to induce recovery neurobiology-based repairs (i.e., igniting propriospinal and 5HT neurotransmission, maintaining the NMJ, muscle spindle and Golgi tendon organ, and reactivating CPG) to reinstall somatomotosensory function after SCI and other types of neurological disorders. The gene discussed is HTR5A; the disease is nervous system disorder.
