Laboratory examination revealed an alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level of 31,132 ng/mL (normal range, 0–7 ng/mL), carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels within the normal ranges, an alanine aminotransferase level of 143 U/L (normal range, 0–75 U/L), an aspartate aminotransferase level of 83 U/L (normal range, 0–38 U/L), and a total bilirubin level of 14.5 μmol/L (normal range, 3.4–20.5 μmol/L), and the hepatitis panel was negative. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and hepatitis A virus infection.
