The proto-oncogene, B cell lymphoma (BCL-2), and tumor suppressor gene, tumor protein p53 (TP53), are among the earliest recognized cancer regulating genes (Lane and Crawford 1979; Linzer and Levine 1979), which show differential significance during carcinogenesis according to the tumorigenic contexts (Hemann and Lowe 2006). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is cancer.
