TPCN2 and melanoma: This difference has potential clinical relevance, as it suggests that inhibiting TPC2 in melanoma through anticancer chemotherapy might be a valid strategy in the early stages of tumourigenesis, since loss of TPC2 function seems to decrease the migratory and invasive characteristics of early-stage melanoma cells, but not at later stages when inhibition of TPC2 by drugs might actually enhance the metastatic properties of melanoma cells.
