Hyperlipidaemia alters the protein and messenger ribonucleic acid expression levels of the key genes (sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c, ACC1, sterol regulatory element-binding protein-2, HMGR, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase, CYP7A1 and ATP-binding cassette transporter A1) in lipid metabolism and the treatment with cassia reverts these levels to those observed with atorvastatin-treated hyperlipidaemic animals [30]. The gene discussed is CYP7A1; the disease is hyperlipidemia.
