TGFβ plays a central role in the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis by regulating several cellular processes, such as myofibroblast differentiation, extracellular matrix deposition, and cell senescence (Saito et al., 2018; Ye and Hu, 2021), and activation of TGF-β signaling has been linked with the development of several aging-associated disorders (Tominaga and Suzuki, 2019). This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and pulmonary fibrosis.
