CRP and Mental deterioration: Two Meta-analyses that included 17 (Feng L. et al., 2023) and 14 (Long et al., 2023) clinical cohort studies, respectively, reported that high levels of peripheral inflammation (blood CRP, TNF-α, and interleukin-6 (IL-6)) significantly increased the risk of cognitive decline in the elderly population (OR = 1.14; 95% CI: 1.03–1.27; p < 0.00001); and higher CRP levels were associated with an increased risk of dementia conversion (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.473; 95% CI: 1.037–2.090; p = 0.0394).
