The ongoing large-scale phase 3 cardiovascular outcomes trial ZEUS is investigating the effect of ziltivekimab (15 mg) compared with placebo in 6200 patients with stage 3–4 CKD and elevated hsCRP who are at high risk of atherosclerotic events.21 The trial includes change in Hb levels from baseline to year 2 as an exploratory end point and will provide further evidence regarding the use of ziltivekimab to improve anemia in patients with CKD stage 3–4. The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
