Notably, levels of peripheral neutrophils and monocytes were initially similar in Acod1–/– and WT mice, but both were increased in Acod1–/– mice compared with WT after 8 to 10 weeks of hypercholesterolemia, coincident with atherosclerosis (Supplemental Figure 4C). The gene discussed is ACOD1; the disease is familial hypercholesterolemia.
