Studies of preclinical mouse models suggest that Acod1 and itaconate attenuate various noninfectious inflammatory conditions that involve macrophages, such as psoriasis (3), ischemia-reperfusion injury of both the brain and heart (4, 5), lung fibrosis (6), and abdominal aortic aneurysms (7). This evidence concerns the gene ACOD1 and pulmonary fibrosis.
