Lastly, to evaluate the specific interaction between MrgprA3 neuron activation and the presence of IL-33 in myeloid cells, we treated CD11c-IL-33KO and controls with CQ, and found that these mice presented with similar levels of ear swelling and lung larval burdens following infection with S. mansoni cercariae (Fig. 4m,n), indicating that the effects of MrgprA3 neuron activation on skin inflammation and host protection primarily relied upon downregulation of myeloid-specific IL-33 and could not be induced in myeloid cells genetically lacking IL-33.
