Steroid type II 5-alpha-reductase(SRD5α2) is an enzyme thatplays a crucial role in the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone(DHT), the most potent androgen in the prostate gland.1,2 The enzyme is encoded by the SRD5α2 gene, which is responsiblefor male pseudo hermaphroditism due to 5-alpha-reductase deficiency,as well as being involved in androgen-related diseases such as prostatecancer (PC) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This evidence concerns the gene SRD5A2 and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
