TSC1 and autism: Of particular note, Stoodley et al. (2017) investigated and compared cerebro-cerebellar interactions in both autistic children and a mouse model lacking the tuberous sclerosis complex 1 gene specifically in Purkinje cells (tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic condition caused by mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes; an estimated 40%–50% of affected children are diagnosed with autism and/or intellectual disability; see Tsai et al., 2012).
