KEAP1 and lung carcinoma: Mutations in the protein Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1), which is observed in approximately 20% of lung cancers, rewires metabolism by constitutively activating nuclear factor-erythroid factor 2-related factor 2 (NRF2), which then drives production of the antioxidant glutathione (GSH) from glutamate.
