In cervical cancer, a higher incidence of HPV16 DNA methylation (47%) was detected at E2-binding sites (E2BS-1, E2BS-2) and the Sp1-binding site (Sp1BS) of the LCR region (regions involved in regulating E6/E7), compared to in normal tissues and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) [74].
