The quite interesting observation of our study is represented by the fact that after significant weight reduction induced via bariatric surgery, obese patients showed a significant reduction in sP2X7R plasma levels, along with a reduction in well-known markers of systemic inflammation such as CRP and TNFα, as usually expected after weight loss, to signify a reduction in the (still unknown) inflammatory stimuli produced in obesity. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
