The strategy of combining a DNA-damaging agent with a BER inhibitor, i.e., TMZ, with the PARP inhibitor, veliparib, has been explored in a phase I trial for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia [72], showing that this combination treatment is well tolerated with efficacy in advanced acute myeloid leukemia. The gene discussed is PARP1; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
