SREBF1 and steatosis: Regarding organs, exposing the fetal liver to triglycerides, lipids, and adipokines increases the expression of lipogenic genes, such as sterol regulatory element binding protein-lc (SREBP-1c), resulting in hepatic lipid accumulation [49] and steatosis in the offspring [48,50], especially if they were fed with a high-fat diet during the pregnancy and lactation [51,52,53].
