This mechanism of action makes neratinib, in 2017, a suitable therapy for the treatment of patients with early-stage HER2+ breast cancer, based on the results of the ExteNET clinical trial (NCT00878709), which was subsequently switched to combination therapy with capecitabine, as the results significantly outperformed lapatinib-capecitabine in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) (NALA) [123,124].
