TNFAIP3 and autoimmune hepatitis: AIH, as the name suggests, is an autoimmune hepatitis that is theorized to occur in genetically pre-disposed individuals (DRB1 allele variants and tumor necrosis factor-α inducible protein 3 (TNFAIP3) gene nucleotide mutations and others), who are thought to be triggered by environmental factors such as viruses and circulating autoantigens that lead to an immune-mediated response resulting in hepatocyte damage [34].
