Leucine-rich α-2 glycoprotein 1 (LRG1) is a secreted member of the family of leucine-rich repeat proteins, and is proposed as a biomarker for pneumonia and asthma-related airway inflammation [43, 44], potentially contributing to mucous overproduction through IL13-driven trans-differentiation of bronchial epithelial cells to goblet cells in asthma patients [44]. This evidence concerns the gene IL13 and susceptibility to pneumonia measurement.
