Two polymorphisms in the PTX3 gene (rs1840680 and rs2305619), located in intronic regions and possibly linked to other SNPs in regulatory regions of the gene, have been associated with changes in PTX3 levels and susceptibility to infectious diseases such as pulmonary tuberculosis [10], Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Caucasian patients with cystic fibrosis [11], Aspergillus fumigatus in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation [12], fungal infections in solid organ transplant patients [13], urinary tract infections [14], and more recently with the severity of COVID-19 [15]. This evidence concerns the gene PTX3 and cystic fibrosis.
