Nrg4, as a potential crosstalk factor between BAT and arteries, inhibits endothelial inflammation or adhesion responses, decreases leukocyte homing and macrophage gathering in plaques, improves plaque stability, and thus protects against endothelial injury and atherosclerosis via endothelial ErbB4–Akt–NF-κB signaling pathway. This evidence concerns the gene NRG4 and atherosclerosis.
